Atlético Madrid move into Wanda Metropolitano with a victory


Antoine Griezmann seals his name as the first man to score at Metropolitano.

The future starts here for Atletico Madrid. The move to the Wanda Metropolitano was difficult for some supporters to take, but seeing their new home, however everything changed.

It was a day that would surely go into Rojiblanco's history, and everything ended the way it had to - Victory at Metropolitano's Inaugural.

Saturday's spectacular inauguration of Atletico's new stadium will live long in the memory and afterwards, coach Diego Simeone admitted: "I have never seen anything like it. I will remember it for the rest of my life."


Antoine Griezmann got the game's only goal just past the hour mark, but the score fit well with the results-only focus of Diego Simeone's Atléti.

Atletico Madrid gives Vicente calderón an emotional farewell

Atléti fanboy Fernando Torres scored twice as Atléti won their last ever match at the Vicente calderón stadium. The atmosphere was electric before kickoff and as Fernando Torres struck a double in the first period, it was a fairy tale opening for Atléti family.  Torres could not have written a better script.
